St Barbara’s School believes that learning mathematics creates opportunities for and enriches the lives of all students. We deliver a curriculum based on the Australian Curriculum that provides students with essential mathematical skills and knowledge in number and algebra, measurement and geometry, and statistics and probability.

Teachers create and deliver their investigative curriculum, through Bruner’s Gradual Release To, With, By Model of Instruction, using a variety of engaging resources such as Natural Maths – Ann Baker, Choose Maths – ICE-EM, Back to Front Maths – Tierney Kennedy, iMaths and various other resources.

The teachers aim to ensure that students:

  • Are confident, creative users and communicators of mathematics, and through Investigations and Performance Tasks, develop skills to investigate, represent and interpret situations in their personal lives.
  • Develop an increasingly sophisticated understanding of mathematical concepts and fluency with processes, and are able to pose and solve problems and reason in number and algebra, measurement and geometry, and statistics and probability
